Our unique therapeutic approach and expert staff ensure your loved one receives treatment and support they need for lasting change. Our evidence-based dissociative identity disorder treatments, including residential care and therapy, offer the intensity and duration necessary to go beyond immediate stabilization to help our clients attain greater independence.

Dissociative identity disorder (DID), formerly known as multiple personality disorder, is often caused by intensive trauma or abuse during childhood. Those suffering from DID have severe disassociation from their feelings, behaviors, and/or identity. This mental health disorder will not go away on its own, therefore treatment is needed in order to heal and move forward. Therapy and medication are used to help your loved one to heal from the past, resolve their different personalities, and reconstruct them into one.

By learning what dissociative identity disorder effective treatment looks like and understanding the value of a long-term inpatient dissociative identity disorder treatment center, you can help your loved one get the care they need to work toward lasting recovery.

Dissociative Identity Disorder Treatment

Dissociative identity disorder treatment facilities provide the best chances for reunifying your loved one’s identities and learning to live with DID. Talk therapy is used to help clients heal from their past traumas and abuse, replace any harmful coping methods with more effective and healthy strategies, identify all identities or alters, and help clients further integrate their identities into one. Medication may also be used to treat symptoms of dissociative identity disorder such as depression or anxiety. Although there is no cure for dissociative identity disorder, with a commitment to the proper ongoing treatment your loved one can see a significant improvement in their ability to function in daily life.

At our BrightQuest locations in San Diego and Nashville, our unique dissociative identity disorder therapeutic model and structure of long-term residential care ensure that your loved one will receive the support necessary for healing and recovery. With the guidance of our clinical team, their peers, and your family involvement, your loved one will work through underlying issues, gain strength, build confidence, regain control of their life, and work toward greater independence.

Dissociative Identity Disorder Treatment Options

Dissociative identity disorder is treated with residential treatment, psychotherapy, and medications to treat the symptoms of DID.

  • Residential Treatment. Sending your loved one to residential treatment is the best way to help them recover from DID. As a client at an inpatient treatment facility patients will receive a well-rounded treatment plan including the skills needed for life after treatment, and medications if necessary. A residential treatment center also allows your loved one to have treatment for any co-occurring mental illnesses or substance use disorder.
  • Psychotherapy. Therapy is the main form of treating DID. Talk therapy will help your loved one heal from their past trauma and/ or abuse, as well as deconstruct their multiple personalities and rejoin them into one.
  • Medications. In addition to therapy sometimes medications are prescribed to alleviate symptoms of DID. These medications may include anti-anxiety, antidepressants, and antipsychotics.

Inpatient Treatment for Dissociative Identity Disorder

As well as therapy and medication, treatment in a residential treatment center incorporates alternative and holistic therapies, group and family support, nutrition, and exercise.
