Equine Therapy

Through interaction with trained therapeutic and equestrian counselors, using DSM-based interventions, educational components, and experiential opportunities, the clients can explore core issues and learn new life skills.

Equine Therapy Overview

BrightQuest is partnered with leaders in equine-assisted therapy who provide quality mental health services, personal growth, teambuilding and leadership, and educational programs utilizing Equine-Assisted Learning and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy. Through interaction with trained therapeutic and equestrian counselors, using DSM-based interventions, educational components, and experiential opportunities, the clients can explore core issues and learn new life skills. This experiential model allows clients to learn about themselves and others by participating in structured activities with the horses and then processing feelings, behaviors and patterns. The results in terms of clarity, retention, and application are exponential.

Emotional Growth and Development

Equine-assisted programs incorporate horses experientially for emotional growth and development, providing vast opportunities for metaphorical learning, an effective technique when working with even the most challenging individuals. Naturally intimidating to many, horses are large and powerful. This creates opportunity to overcome challenges and develop coping strategies. Working alongside a horse, in spite of fears, creates confidence and provides wonderful insight when dealing with other intimidating or difficult life situations. Emphasis is placed on developing skills relative to communication, assertiveness, Creative Thinking, Self Awareness, Honesty, Relationships and Boundaries, Trust and Empathy, Problem Solving, Work Ethic, Leadership, Responsibility, and Teamwork, in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Following the initial on-site assessment, BrightQuest’s clinical team will make a recommendation to attend this program if they believe it would be a benefit to the assessing client. Participants in this special program will receive (4) two-hour group sessions and (2) one-hour individual sessions each month. All sessions are facilitated by our equine-assisted therapy partners who regularly coordinate their treatment strategies with BrightQuest’s clinical team to ensure treatment plan continuity for each of our clients.
